iBeholder mobile arts survey system for 4 galleries in Northern Ireland

We worked with The Audience Agency and Thrive to build a mobile-first web application for art gallery surveys.

This was launched as a pilot for our galleries in Northern Ireland.

  • Golden Thread Gallery
  • The Naughton Gallery
  • Belfast Exposed
  • Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) Derry~Londonderry

Each instance of the app had a customisable design and a branching workflow of survey questions made to be visual rather than the standard text-heavy form.

We included privacy-focused data collection and the ability to add rich content such as videos.

The whole experience was built upon a flexible, easy to deploy and customise WordPress system but was made to feel like a mobile application as that was the primary audience.

The research project was written up by Thrive into a web and PDF report.

Our experience with iBeholder have shown us the potential of exploring new ways to gather data on audiences, not just for visual arts organisations but also for the wider cultural sector. There is so much scope for further research and development in this area across the arts, culture and heritage sectors, and we hope to continue to test out new ways of doing this as the opportunity arises
