In May 2016 Colchester Zoo approached Octophin Digital about creating a brand new online shop to showcase and sell their broad range of animal-themed products, from zoo day experience vouchers to animal-themed toys and wild accessories. The site needed to fulfil the unique organisation’s needs for complex shipping rules across a broad range of products and intergration with their Customer Records Management (CRM) systems, as well as introducing a refreshed look and feel for the site with best practice user experience.
To deliver a future-proofed and fully customised product, Octophin Digital developed the custom ecommerce site using the popular open source software Drupal Commerce software. The adminstration interface is made to be used easily by shop staff, allowing them to add and maintain products, manage stock levels and view reports on orders.
The site is designed to work for its customers whatever device they are using, so it’s as easy to shop on a mobile as it is on a desktop computer. Even on the smallest smart phone screen, clever responsive design means all the site’s features are available. An updated, modern look for the site was introduced with striking full-width banners to show off the Zoo’s stunning photography, while still working within Colchester Zoo’s distinctive brand style.
