Time Traveller’s Guide to London Zoo
We took beautiful historic plans of ZSL's London Zoo and used them to bring two hundred years of the world's first scientific zoo's history to life through a gamified interactive time-traveling map and quiz.
With so many stories, images and people to highlight from the brilliant archives of the ZSL library we needed an approach that wasn't too daunting for people wanting a quick look into the zoo's rich heritage but also rewarded time spent diving deeper.
We built a concept of themes, all structured and edited through an easy to use content management system, that could have multiple markers, across multiple time periods added to them. People would pick a theme, explore the relevant history and when ready take a quiz about what they learnt.
To add a bit of fun and highlight the gamified element of the project we composed a soundtrack and put in some bouncing marker animations to bring the history to life.
Through the CMS and flexible structure, the project is built to grow over time without the need for extra technical development work.
