Interactive map, dashboard and portal for 400 years of UK sturgeon sightings
We worked with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) to visualise 400 years of historic sturgeon sightings in the UK.

We worked with graphic designer Rachel Oxton-King to design an interactive dashboard that took the simple interactive map concept we were asked to present into a uniquely styled dashboard, searchable database and story platform.
To bring the data to life we worked with data journalists Duncan Geere and Miriam Quick to categorise the data and help us build infographics such as an interactive "Sturgeon Price Index".
We cut down on hosting costs by hosting the website for free using GitHub pages (building a GitHub Actions driven build system that can update the content) and, as with much of our work at Octophin, made it so that the application could be updated with new stories and data going forward.

The Octophin team was brilliant to work with. They were full of creative ideas that enhanced the project, while listening and incorporating our wishes and creating our vision. It was also helpful having a team who were knowledgeable and enthusiastic about conservation and the work we were doing. They were always quick and efficient, and very responsive throughout the project. The final website turned out better than we had hoped!
