As part of our support of the Instant Wild citizen science application we integrated another citizen science platform, SciStarter.
ZSL London Zoo - Tiger Terriroty Exhibit Touchscreen Game
An interactive touchscreen game to promote ZSL’s Instant Wild app
We worked with ZSL London Zoo and the ZSL Conservation Technology Team to build a touchscreen game to sit in the Tiger Territory exhibit at the zoo.
The game needed to educate users about camera traps and promote ZSL’s Instant Wild citizen-science app while remaining fun and stable enough to be used by the crowds of visitors to one of the zoo’s flagship exhibits.
Players can select a country on a world map and identify the animals in real camera trap images. They can also read about the species and learn about how camera traps are used in the wild.
We provided tools for monitoring the app and also updating its content through easy to read / write configuration files to make it more future proof.
We worked with ZSL to set up the machine so that it ran constantly every day, even helping to install it in the exhibit (see field work image below!).
The touchscreen is still up in the exhibit so if you’re at the zoo, give it a go and see how many animals you can identify.
An immersive experience centred around the real-life threats to tigers and their habitat.
